This explains what personal data Ajankara collects, why, who sees it and what your choices are. Ajankara is owned and operated by SmartViews Limited, which is the controller of your personal data: SmartViews Limited, a registered company.
Account information: full name, email or phone number, and password (stored hashed, never in plain text).
Location: when you allow it, your device's coordinates are used to find shops and services near you and to show distance/travel-time estimates. You can decline location access; search and browsing still work without it, just without proximity sorting.
Hails: when you send a shop a hail, the location you send with it goes to that shop so it can tell whether it can have the item ready. A hail that was declined, expired, or cancelled is deleted 30 days after it ended, together with that location and the notifications and share links that point to it. A completed hail is kept as a record of the pickup.
Saved shops and items, and alerts: the shops and items you save, and which kinds of alert you switch on or off. We use them to tell you when a shop you saved adds an item, posts a reel or an announcement, or when an item you saved gets cheaper or comes back in stock. These alerts go to your Inbox and, as a push to your phone or browser, at most once a day. We do not send them by text message, WhatsApp or email. The “What's new” list in Favorites keeps these updates for 30 days, and you can switch each kind off at any time.
Saved searches: when you choose “Alert me” on a search, we keep the words, the category and, only if the search was limited to near you, the place you searched from (rounded to about 1 km) and the distance. We use them to tell you when a new item that matches is added, at most once a day for each search. You can keep up to 10 and remove any of them at any time, and removing one deletes it.
Offers from shops: a shop you saved can send the people who saved it an offer, a short message that may name one of its items and has an end date. We show it in your Inbox and in What's new like the other alerts (and as a push at most once a day), and it disappears from What's new when it ends. A shop can send at most one a day. The shop sees how many people saved it, not who they are. You can switch these offers off at any time.
Meeting points: for an order where you meet in person, the place you and the other person agree (its name, its position on a map and a note if you add one), the time window, and the check-ins you tap (arrived, done, OK, or “I do not feel safe”). This is not your live location. If you make a private link for someone you trust, they can see only the place, the time and your status; the link is kept only as a hash, works until a few hours after the meeting, and you can stop it at any time. “I do not feel safe” goes to Ajankara and not to the other person. This is deleted 30 days after the order is closed, unless a safety concern is still being looked into.
Seller verification (KYC): identity documents submitted by sellers during onboarding, used only to review and approve shop listings.
Transactions: order and booking history, escrow status, and — for in-app payments — confirmation of payment from Paystack. Ajankara does not receive or store your full card number.
Content you create: listings, reviews, replies, chat messages, and Reels you upload.
Usage data: basic device and app-usage information used for security (like detecting suspicious login activity) and for improving the product.
Notification settings: if you allow notifications in your browser or on your phone, we store the address your browser or phone gives us so that we can send them to you. You can turn them off at any time in your browser, your phone's settings or Ajankara's settings.
Emergency contact (optional): if you choose to add one from your Account page, we store the name, phone number, and relationship you provide for someone you designate. This is never requested at signup and is entirely optional. We do not contact this person ourselves — it exists so it's on file if you ever need support to escalate a real safety concern, and to power an in-app shortcut that lets you message them directly when you're meeting a seller in person. You're responsible for having that person's permission before adding their details.
We rely on one or more of these reasons: it is needed to provide Ajankara to you under our terms; you gave your consent (for example to share your location or receive notifications, which you can withdraw); it is needed to meet a legal duty; or it serves our legitimate interests in running a safe marketplace, in so far as those interests are not overridden by your rights.
Sellers you transact with see what's needed to fulfil an order or booking (e.g. delivery details, your review). Paystack processes in-app payments under its own privacy terms. We don't sell your personal data to third parties.
Order, booking and account updates are shown in your Inbox in the app, and sent by push and email. If you turn on WhatsApp alerts in your account settings (they are off until you do), those updates are also sent to your phone number on WhatsApp. If you give us a phone number but no email, a password-reset code is sent to that number on WhatsApp. WhatsApp messages are delivered through Meta's WhatsApp Business Platform, which receives your number and the message and handles them under its own privacy terms.
We also share data with companies that work for SmartViews Limited to run Ajankara, such as cloud hosting and file storage, email, push notification, map and image-checking providers. They may only use it to provide their service to us. We may disclose data when the law requires it, to answer a lawful request from a court, regulator or the police, to protect the safety or rights of users or of SmartViews Limited, or to a company that takes over Ajankara, which must honour this policy.
Some of these providers are outside Nigeria, so your data may be processed in other countries. Where it is, we take steps to make sure it is protected as the law requires.
Passwords are hashed, not stored in plain text. Seller and admin accounts support two-factor authentication. Sessions use rotating refresh tokens with reuse detection, and uploaded files are validated before storage. We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data. No system is perfectly secure, however, and we cannot promise that data will never be accessed without permission. Please keep your password private and tell us at once if you think your account has been misused.
We keep personal data only as long as we need it for the reasons above. Account data is kept while your account is open. When you delete your account we delete or anonymise your personal data, except what we must keep to meet legal, tax, accounting or fraud-prevention duties or to deal with a dispute, such as records of orders and payments. Those are kept for as long as the law requires, and afterwards deleted or anonymised.
You can review and update your profile information from your Account page, including changing your password and managing two-factor authentication. You can download a copy of your data, or ask for your account to be deleted, under "Your data" on that page and in the app's Profile; the delete your account page explains what happens. For any other request, such as correcting your data, contact us using the details below.
Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 you have the right to ask for access to your personal data, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to how it is used, to receive it in a portable form, and to withdraw consent you gave. Some of these rights have exceptions that the law allows. If you are not happy with how we have handled your data, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
Ajankara isn't directed at children and isn't knowingly used to collect data from anyone below the age required to enter into agreements under Nigerian law. If you believe a child has given us their data, contact us and we will delete it.
The website uses cookies and similar browser storage only for things it needs to work, such as keeping you signed in, remembering a choice you made, and delivering notifications you asked for. We do not use them to show you ads based on what you do on other websites.
We may update this policy as Ajankara changes. We will change the date at the top, and where a change matters to you, such as a new reason for using your data, we will tell you in the app or by email.
SmartViews Limited owns and operates Ajankara. Questions about this policy, or requests about your data, can be sent to support@ajankara.com.
